What is a Bulking Cycle?
The term ‘bulking cycle‘ can refer to two different things when used in the world of bodybuilding. On one hand it means you add a bulking cycle to your workout plan which is where you increase the amount of weight in your training to build more or stronger muscle or on the other hand it can be where steroids are used to promote or encourage quick muscle growth. This is where you can get big gains very quickly. The key thing to remember is that both methods require discipline and a well planned work schedule.
A bulking cycle is called a cycle for a reason and isn’t something you should add to your workout plan as an ongoing supplement or as an extra to all training. A bulking cycle is planned and controlled and works in conjunction to your training and end goal.
With steroids, a bulking cycle is used to add size and mass to your muscles or to coin the phrase “Bulking Up” for shorter periods of time, usually in a cycles of a number of weeks, the most popular being 4 or 8 weeks. It isn’t the case of just taking any steroids to this, there are a variety of specific steroids that are designed for different reasons; to increase inner strength, to add muscle mass or to recover muscles quicker. Importantly and as already hinted to, a steroid bulking cycle works in conjunction with a well-planned workout program; your lifting cycle should be increased during the bulking phase to maximize the gains and results.

A Typical 8 Week Bulking Cycle
When completing an 8 week Bulking Cycle, it is highly recommended to take a break after week 8 before starting another cycle or moving on to a Cutting Cycle. By this point your body will feel and look much more full. You will have muscle gains all over providing you’ve stuck to a strong and well planned workout plan. There will also be increased water retention in your muscles so it is wise to break after the 8 week cycle before starting again or moving on to a Cutting Cycle.
